A new Galerie.a in the heart of Saint-Roch!
Now at 261 Rue Saint-Vallier Est
Quebec City — January 12, 2022 After multiple moves in recent years, Galerie.a founder Anne D’Amours Mc Donald is thrilled to open the doors of her new gallery space at 261 Rue Saint-Vallier Est, next to the Salons d’Edgar restaurant in the heart of Saint-Roch. Beginning January 4, 2022, she will be on hand to personally welcome the gallery’s loyal patrons and all contemporary art fans.
AT THE EPICENTRE OF QUEBEC CITY’S ARTS SCENE
It was important for Anne that her new gallery be close to the hot spots of Quebec City’s vibrant arts scene, including the district’s many galleries, the Méduse complex of artist-run centres, and Université Laval’s faculty of arts.
“The new Galerie.a will be more accessible than ever,” notes Anne D’Amours Mc Donald. “Instead of searching for us in pop-up spaces, people will know exactly where to find us, in our new permanent home.”
In addition to its prime location in bustling downtown district, the new Galerie.a interior is a wonderful 500 sq. ft. exhibition space in a character building. Tucked between the Salons d’Edgar restaurant and fellow contemporary art gallery, Galerie 3, the new addition confirms Rue Saint-Vallier Est as the place to discover the best in contemporary art talent.
WOMEN ARTISTS LEAD THE WAY
Galerie.a presents work in a wide array of disciplines including drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Its primary mission is developing an international community of artists and collectors of contemporary Quebec art. And since gallery founder Anne D’Amours Mc Donald is especially committed to supporting Quebec City’s artists and arts community, the gallery currently represents 12 local artists. New partnerships will be announced in the months ahead. Anne D’Amours Mc Donald is proud that a two-thirds majority of these artists are women.
WINTER PROGRAMMING
Along with its new space, Galerie.a is unveiling a series exciting new exhibitions. First up is a group show featuring all 12 artists represented by Galerie.a. Visit the gallery starting January 14 to see the work of Émilie Bernard, Ève Cadieux, Isabelle Demers, Luca Fortin, Josée Landry Sirois, Florence Le Blanc, Antoine Lortie, François Mathieu, Tanya Morand, Julie Picard, Carlos Ste‑Marie and Nathalie Thibault.
“I want visitors checking out Galerie.a for the first time to get to know all the talented artists we represent. The group show is the perfect chance to discover artists you may not be familiar with!”
VOIR PLUS LOIN QUE CE QUI EST ICI/SEEING BEYOND
JOSÉE LANDRY SIROIS
In February, the works of Josée Landry Sirois will grace Galerie.a’s walls with her show Voir plus loin que ce qui est ici/Seeing Beyond, featuring drawings, collage, sculptures and other singular works of accretion that partake of a tender strangeness. Josée Landry Sirois’s work is held in numerous private and public collections including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ), BMO, Desjardins, and City of Québec collections.
LA NUIT DES ANGUILLES/NIGHT OF THE EELS
ISABELLE DEMERS
In March, multidisciplinary artist Isabelle Demers will present La nuit des anguilles/Night of the eels. The artist invents and nurtures an ecosystem of drawings, sculptures, and installation work. Her practice grows out of an urge to tell stories, and she creates visual situations and uses processes drawn from the worlds of craft and science. Isabelle Demers has exhibited at group and solo shows in Quebec and internationally.
Josée Landry Sirois and Isabelle Demers’s shows are part of the satellite circuit of Manif d’art 10 (the Quebec City biennial).
