Tanya Morand
Fandango / Artemis
January 17 to February 8, 2020
Opening reception Friday, January 17, 5 pm to 9 pm
Quebec City, January 9, 2020 – Galerie.a is pleased to invite you to the opening Fandango / Artemis presented by the artist Tanya Morand. This exhibition of the artist’s new works includes silkscreen, painting and collage.
Fandango / Artemis reinterprets in monotypes the artist’s drawings of architecture, adding rambling figures, and then fragments these images of cities into botanical motifs, moons and arabesques; contrasting the monumental and the vernacular, the sublime and the strange.
Tanya Morand is fascinated by mythical female figures throughout the history of art. Contemporary figures that embody the legendary icon of Artemis, accompanied by her dog, saunter through her recent imagery. Sometimes an oval motif of the city splits into a park and hovers above the figure of Artemis, as if she were transforming the urban landscape into a bucolic reverie.
